About Dar Al-Shifā

A house of healing, rooted in the Sunnah

Dar Al-Shifā is a Hijāma (wet cupping) practice in Western Sydney.

Our focus is simple: to offer Hijāma as it is taught in the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.

We approach Hijāma as a traditional wellness practice and a complement to the care of your doctor, never a replacement for it. That means honest conversations, no exaggerated promises, and time to answer your questions properly.

Dār al-Shifā: Arabic for “The House of Healing”

Hijāma in the Sunnah

“The best of remedies you have is hijāma (cupping).”

Sahih al-Bukhari 5696

What people usually ask before their first Hijāma session.

Ask Dar Al-Shifā on WhatsApp (opens WhatsApp)
Your health comes first If you have a medical condition or take medication, please speak with your GP before booking, and let us know during your consultation.
What is Hijāma?

Hijāma (Arabic for “cupping”) is a traditional practice in which cups are placed on the skin to create suction. In wet cupping, the form most associated with the Sunnah, light superficial incisions are made and the cups are reapplied to draw a small amount of blood. Cupping has been practised across many cultures for centuries.

Is Hijāma really a Sunnah?

Yes. Hijāma appears in a number of authentic narrations. The Prophet ﷺ had Hijāma performed and spoke of it favourably, for example in Sahih al-Bukhari 5696. That is why many Muslims practise it today as a Sunnah.

How much does a session cost?

A Hijāma (wet cupping) session is $100.

Who do you treat?

Dar Al-Shifā is a men-only Hijāma clinic.

How long does a session take?

Session length depends on your consultation and the number of cups used. We’ll give you a time estimate when you book, so you can plan your day.

Does Hijāma hurt?

Many people describe the suction as a firm pulling sensation and the incisions as light scratches. Everyone is different, so we go at your pace, check in with you throughout, and you can ask to pause at any time.

How should I prepare?
  • Have a light meal two to three hours beforehand and avoid heavy meals.
  • Drink water and arrive well hydrated.
  • Wear comfortable clothing.
  • Avoid intense exercise just before your session.
  • Tell us about any medical conditions and medications (especially blood thinners) when you book.
What aftercare is recommended?

For the first 24 hours:

  • Rest where you can and keep the treated areas clean and dry.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and very hot showers.
  • Eat lightly and stay well hydrated.

You’ll receive personalised aftercare guidance after your session. If anything concerns you afterwards, contact us, or seek medical advice if needed.

Will Hijāma leave marks?

Cupping usually leaves round marks where the cups were placed. These generally fade over several days to a week or so. The incisions are very superficial and typically heal quickly. Let us know if you have an event coming up and we can talk through timing.

Who should not have Hijāma, or check with a doctor first?

Hijāma is not suitable for everyone. Please speak with your GP before booking if you:

  • have a bleeding or clotting disorder, or take blood-thinning medication;
  • have anaemia, diabetes, a heart condition or very low blood pressure;
  • are undergoing cancer treatment;
  • have a skin condition, wound or infection in the treatment area;
  • have recently had surgery.

Please tell us about any health conditions during your consultation. If Hijāma isn’t right for you, we’ll tell you honestly.

Is there a best time for Hijāma?

Many people choose the Sunnah days, the 17th, 19th and 21st of the Islamic (lunar) month, following narrations from the Sunnah. If those dates don’t suit you, get in touch and we’ll find a time that works.

How often can I have Hijāma?

It varies from person to person. We’ll discuss what’s sensible for you during your consultation, taking your health and circumstances into account.

Is Hijāma a replacement for medical treatment?

No. Hijāma is a traditional, complementary wellness practice. It is not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment from a qualified medical professional, and you shouldn’t stop or change any treatment without your doctor’s advice.

Where are you located?

Dar Al-Shifā is based in Western Sydney, servicing Auburn, Bankstown, Blacktown, Bringelly, Camden, Campbelltown, Liverpool and all of Sydney. Contact us and we’ll share appointment location details when you book.
